You’ve built the chart. You know the data. But when you’ve been looking at the same visual for hours, it can be surprisingly difficult to see what your audience will actually take away from it.
For the fourth workshop in our Data Storytelling Series, we’re doing something a little different: we’re working with your charts.
About one week before the session, you’ll have the opportunity to submit a chart or data visual you’re currently working on, along with the aggregated data behind it. Change titles, labels or identifying details as needed to protect confidentiality.
Jeff will select approximately five visuals and prepare a redesigned version of each before the workshop.
Review the original together. What catches our attention? What’s working? What’s unclear or getting in the way?
Reveal Jeff’s redesign. See the before and after and hear Jeff talk through the choices he made, and why.
Learn from every example. Apply the same thinking to your own work as we explore chart type, layout, emphasis, labels and other small decisions that can make a big difference.
Send selected participants home with their redesign. If your visual is featured, you’ll receive Jeff’s revised version following the workshop.
You don’t need to have a chart selected, or even submit one, to get a lot from this session. By working through real examples together, you’ll build a sharper eye for recognizing what makes a visual clear, intentional and easier for an audience to understand.
Want your chart on the table? Submit it at least one week before the workshop. Space for live reviews is limited, so early submission is encouraged.
